About the Event
Here is just a little information on VA Stand Downs:
Stand Downs are typically one- to three-day events providing supplies and services to homeless veterans, such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, and Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans can also receive referrals to other services, such as health care, housing solutions, employment, substance abuse treatment, and mental health counseling. They are collaborative events, coordinated between local VA medical centers, other government agencies, and community-based homeless service providers (https://www.va.gov/homeless/events.asp).
As a student volunteer, you will be assisting with health screenings, directing veterans to appropriate resources, aiding in documentation, handing out care items and set-up/tear-down. ALL students are welcome to participate, no matter which semester you are in! We are offering 3 cord points for this event.
Dress code: CSUSM SON Polo & apporpriate short/pants
If you have any questions about this event or if you want to sign up to volunteer, please contact the SNA Community Health Project Coordinator (Heidi Zabriskie) at csusm.sna.community.health@gmail.com.
This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity, and we highly recommend that you participate if you can!
